    Incidental findings in a neonatal kidney ultrasound in the first days of life (1-7 day of life). This is seen in about 4% of all newborns.  

     
     Pediatric Radiology CasesPathomorphology or Pathophysiology of this disease :

    Deposition of ureates and proteins in the tubules of the pyramids. Possibly caused by increased erythrocyte degredation in the first days of life and a decreased fluid intake (stasis).

    Ultrasound 1 <- view Ultrasound 1

    Ultrasound 1: The tubuli which are normally low in echoes are seen as echogenic structures, with shadows now and then.



    Ultrasound 2 <- view Ultrasound 2

    Ultrasound 2: Even without treatment, there is normalization of the findings towards the end of the first week of life.

    Pathology 1: Macroscopic picture of the urate and protein deposits.

    Earlier, described incorrectly as a "Uric acid infarction" of the kidney, since autopsy of expired newborns showed these ureate deposits and were falsely interpreted.
